Norwegian scientists face barriers trying to publish research on minke whales in international journals. Rejections are politically or culturally motivated, contrary to fundamental principles of objectivity and integrity in research, writes Ole Torrissen (Institute of Marine Research), Dagens Næringsliv, March 7, 2012.
Institute of Marine Research has compiled evidence that antarctic mink whale has crossed the equator and migrated to the North Atlantic. Biology Letters, a leading scientific journal, rejected the paper because it is based on data from Norwegian and Japanese whaling. The editor of Biology Letters, Fiona Pring, claims that "it is universally accepted that Norwegian and Japanese whaling is unethical", but does not provide additional arguments or evidence support this claim.
